Marriage and Family Life

Each Pastoral Area has its own marriage and family life representatives and the representatives for our Pastoral Area (St Therese of Lisieux) are based here in Christ the King and Our Lady’s parish. The representatives from all the Pastoral Areas in the Archdiocese of Liverpool meet together several times a year to share knowledge about the different types of events that take place in their parishes to support marriage and family life. They also receive information from support groups who are available to help people in all aspects of marriage and family life. The representatives have contact details for a large range of support groups from carers and counselling to infertility and debt problems. They can provide you with these details in confidence if required.

At some point in the future, the marriage and family life representatives will be arranging the launch of ‘Home is a Holy Place’. This is an initiative from the Catholic Bishops of England and Wales which aims to raise greater awareness of God’s presence at home not just among families but among all those who serve them in any way within our catholic community. There is a multimedia resource pack to go with the Home is a Holy Place theme, this includes a DVD, leaflets, worksheets and prayer cards. The pack will be useful for many groups within the parish, for example baptism and first communion preparation and will be available following the launch.

There is an annual celebration in the Cathedral to celebrate marriage and family life. This is particularly aimed at couples who are about to be married or who are celebrating a special wedding anniversary but all members of the parish are welcome to attend. This event usually takes place in early February and the dates will be published on the web site and in the parish newsletter.

The marriage and family life representatives at Christ the King hope to develop the role to cover not just support at difficult times or sacramental preparation but also to provide social events where all members of the wider parish family can gather together to meet one another, chat and have fun!
